Seeking a Miracle

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20)
Many of us have asked God for a genuine miracle in our lives—something beyond coincidence and beyond any human ability. And there have been times when God has answered. But what about the times when, as far as we know, the miracle doesn’t happen? The fact is, God does not heal every person or solve every difficulty. Trying circumstances can have a purpose far greater than you or I can understand.
When miracles don’t happen we tend to get frustrated with God. Jesus condemned those who insisted that He perform miracles because He knew their real motives (Matthew 16:4). Their faith in Him was not strong enough without some form of proof. And even if He had worked a miracle, they likely would not have believed. They were seeking miracles to validate their suspicions, not their faith.
Sometimes it takes greater faith to trust God for the outcome if no miracle is forthcoming. The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego demonstrated this kind of faith. They could have begged for a miracle as they faced the fiery furnace. Instead they told the king, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up” (Daniel 3:17-18). While they knew God was able to rescue them, they trusted Him completely with their lives regardless of the outcome.
God is at work in every situation according to His purpose and plan, and it is always for our good—whether we see it or not. In everything His goal is to bring us closer to Him. That, in itself, is a miracle.

Heavenly Father, Thank you for working a miracle in my life by causing me to want to love and worship You. Grant me greater faith to ask for, and to accept, your perfect will. Amen
